The two-day Global Business Conference – 2023 by NRB World and Business America magazine concluded in Dubai with a commitment to creating a new generation of skilled professionals.

The ‘Global Business Conference-2023’ concluded in Dubai with a shared commitment to fostering a new generation of skilled professionals. The conference, a collaborative effort between NRB World, the largest organization of Bangladeshi expatriates globally, and the US-based magazine Business America took place from December 22 to 24 at the prestigious Millennium Plaza Hotel Downtown in Dubai.
The event featured distinguished guests, including the Honorable Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed Abu Zafar, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Kali Pradeep Chowdhury, Chief Advisor of NRB World and Chairman and Founder of KPC Group was present as the guest of honor. H.E. Dr. Juma Madani, Chairman and CEO of Al Matiya Group, also attended the conference. Special guests included Faisal Chowdhury, Scottish Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister of Culture, Sheikh Rahman from the Georgia State Senate, and BM Jamal Hossain, the Consulate General of Bangladesh in the UAE. The event drew participation from approximately 500 renowned business organizations, their leaders, and professionals from 25 countries, making it a truly international gathering.
In the event organized on the occasion of Global Business Conference-2023 Bangladesh, in recognition of the success of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs located in different countries of the world, more than a hundred organizations and entrepreneurial personalities were given the ‘International Business Excellence Award-2023’ in various categories. As a result, Bangladeshi businessmen scattered in different countries of the world get the opportunity to establish business relations with each other, and by doing this it will be possible to establish business connections with businessmen. This conference will also be able to play an important role in the development of the country’s economy. The collaboration of expatriates is crucial for propelling Bangladesh forward, as emphasized by the current president of NRB World, Md. Shahiduzzaman. He articulated that NRB World’s inception aimed at bridging the new generation with their ethnicity and roots.

The Global Business Conference 2023 commenced with a grand opening, signifying the significance of the event. The two-day conference concluded with the assurance that expatriates would soon be provided with NRB cards. The program was presented by Neel Hurejahan.
Juma Madani emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts for growth and development, stating that the UAE government supports Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and is dedicated to creating a conducive environment for business expansion. In the opening speech, renowned journalist of Voice of America, Advisor of NRB World, and Chief Editor of Business America Magazine, Rokeya Haider said, we have gathered here to communicate and establish relationships with each other. Bangladeshis first migrated for livelihood, but now the diaspora is leading in education and business. Every year many new generation students migrate abroad so this platform can be an important waypoint for them.
In his address, the President of NRB World expressed that the organization’s purpose is to link the next generation of the diaspora with their homeland. Emphasizing collective responsibility, he conveyed that while the organization has initiated efforts, it is the duty of all to contribute. Recognizing the country’s contributions, he urged individuals to give back by joining NRB World. He underscored the urgency for NRB cards, proposing immediate issuance by the government.

Senator Sheikh Rahman of the US state of Georgia emphasized the significance of December, the month of victory, noting that without the birth of Bangladesh, he wouldn’t be a US senator today. He stressed the importance of teaching Bengali to the new generation for unity. Scottish Parliamentarian Faisal Chowdhury highlighted the need to dream big, stating that ambitious goals are what propel us forward. He urged the diaspora to engage in politics where they reside, as local participation benefits both the individual and the host country, emphasizing unity over divisions from politics in their home country.
In his address, Coders Trust leader Aziz Ahmed stressed the collective responsibility of moving forward, affirming the onward progression of the organization, NRB World. The Secretary General of NRB World, Mohammad Ayub Ali, appealed to the government to eliminate obstacles and establish a secure channel for legal money transfers to the country.
Dr. Ismail Bellhouse, the special representative of the Dubai government, asserted that Dubai stands as the investment capital of the world. He highlighted the government’s support for businesses in Dubai, emphasizing the ease and affordability for anyone to initiate a business in the city.
The Global Business Conference showcased five panel discussions, each featuring distinguished personalities.
Dr. Rubaiyat Islam Sadat, Chairman of Nash Investment Group, led the opening panel on ‘Innovation.’ The panel featured notable figures including Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, CEO of FBCCI Innovation and Research Centre; Bashir Ahmed, Past President of the British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI); Rajulur Russell, Operational Excellence Manager for Asia Pacific at Medtronic; Asad Mamun, CEO of Drone International Singapore; Rudmila Nausheen, Founder and CEO of ConfigVR and ConfigRobot in Silicon Valley; and Hasanur Rahman, Managing Director of Swadhin Lab.
Moderated by Ifty Islam, Chairman of Asian Tigers Capital Partners, the second panel focused on ‘Investment.’ Discussions within this panel encompassed financial strategies, market trends, and opportunities for optimal capital allocation. Key topics included risk management, diversification, and the impact of global economic factors. The panelists shared insights into prudent investment practices for businesses, addressing various aspects such as market dynamics and effective risk mitigation strategies.
The panelists included Ataul Ahmed, CEO of Teknaf; Sheikh Raihan Ahmed, CEO of Linkthree Technologies Limited; Rafiq Khan, President of AVS Group; Mohammad Chishti, President of Chishti CPAPC; and Farazy Ikram, Chairman and CEO of NEC Group.
Moderated by Dr. Sheikh Alimuzzaman, founder of Japan Bangladesh Hospital, the third panel delved into the theme of ‘Involvement.’ Panelists featured Abul Hyat Nurujjaman, Director General of British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Industry (BBCCI), Taj Accountants, and Cloud BPO; Barrister Monowar Hussain, specializing in UK and EU Immigration; Moinul Haque Siddiqui, Chairman of Fiber Home Limited; Abul Hossain, President and CEO of Fazila Group; Mahtab Mia, Director of British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Industry (BBCCI); and Md Ferdous Ur Rahman, CEO of JSS Services Limited.

Furthermore, Members of FOBANA organized a discussion focusing on the organization’s contributions to ‘Smart Bangladesh 2041.’ The participants included Mohammad Alamgir, Chairman of FOBANA; Duke Khan, Ex-Chairman; Rehan Reza, Ex chairman; M. Kali Pradip Chaudhuri, the Chairman and Founder of the KPC Group of Companies, has reached an unprecedented level of success through extraordinary vision, acute entrepreneurial spirit and relentless hard work. Dr. Chaudhuri completed his intermediate science at the MC College in Sylhet. He obtained his MBBS degree in Kolkata and was also educated in Malaysia, England, Canada and the United States. Having earned extraordinary credentials and prestigious honors, Dr. Chaudhuri has practiced orthopedic surgery since 1982. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. In addition, Dr. Chaudhuri is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Chaudhuri diversified his quest for progress in many business verticals while enhancing his footprint in the healthcare services and facilities industry. During the last four months of 2010, Dr. Chaudhuri and his group acquired a $70 million note on four hospitals in California including Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, Western Medical Center in Anaheim, Chapman Medical Center and Coastal Communities Hospital in Orange County. In addition, Dr. Chaudhuri successfully acquired two hospitals: Hemet Valley Medical Center and Menifee Valley Medical Center for $172 million. His latest hospital acquisition includes Victor Valley Community Hospital in Victorville, California.
A real estate entrepreneur with widely diversified property acquisitions worldwide, Dr. Chaudhuri has enhanced his footprint significantly over the last several years. The KPC Group has been contracted to execute the prestigious ‘City of Corona Redevelopment’ project- worth $ 1.8 billion over a period of several years. The Group has acquired the multi-million dollar high profile 300,000 SF commercial complex in Corona, California and named it KPC Summit. In addition, Dr. Chaudhuri and his group are currently engaged in the development and construction of more than 3.3 million sq. ft. of commercial real estate comprising of hotels, resorts, apartments, old age homes and educational institutions.
In 2003, Dr. Chaudhuri successfully established the first private medical school in West Bengal, India. On a sprawling 25 acres state-of-the-art campus with more than 1.8 million sq. ft. of construction, the KPC Medical College & Hospital, Shova Rani Nursing College and Paramedical College provide health and educational services to millions of Indians residing in the city of Kolkata.

In April 2010, The KPC Group’s pharmaceutical company, Chemgen Pharma International, partnered with Ferrer Group based in Barcelona, Spain to develop The KPC-Ferrer Institute for Infectious and Tropical Diseases. The collaboration with Ferrer will combine and enhance the expertise of the two companies in the design of chemical compounds for developing anti-infective drugs. Also in 2010, Chemgen Pharma International, entered into an agreement with Orthopadietechnik KG in Germany to develop OrthoChemgen, a multi-million dollar company with bases in India and Germany. Dr. Chaudhuri’s Group along with Mobidough, Inc., created Swiftlythere.com, a mobile & web-based travel services company enabling virtual, ‘home-based’ travel agents to book international & domestic air, car, cruise, hotel, custom packages, and group sales reservations at deep discounts with easy payment & ticket redemption technology.
Dr. Chaudhuri and his Group are also involved in the Information Technology and Architectural/ Engineering/ Construction sector. In 2005, his Group created DowcoMAX Services to provide automated structural steel facilities to the worldwide steel market. DowcoMAX contributed to high-profile projects such as the Freedom Tower in New York City, the Goldman Sachs World Headquarter in New York, and many others including Oil and Gas refineries throughout the world. In 2011, Dr. Chaudhuri acquired DowcoMAX by enhancing his ownership position from 40% to 100% and renamed it ITeMAX Engineering Services.

Seamark Group grew from a small family run business to supply seafood and various food products worldwide. Iqbal pioneered the import and export of frozen seafood in refrigerated containers and was the first to import Black Tiger shrimps into the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU). It wasn’t long before he began to look at ways of expanding the family business, thus created Iqbal Brothers & Company (now IBCO Limited) in 1976, importing and distributing frozen seafood and all kinds of frozen food products.
As the business grew further, it made sense to Iqbal to create a new company, Seamark which is more reflective of the size and scope of the operation. Seamark’s first factory was set up in Manchester and was officially opened in 1993 by The Rt Hon The Lord Deben, John Selwyn Gummer, the then Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. In 2000 Iqbal Ahmed established Seamark (BD) Limited in Bangladesh which was inaugurated by HRH Princess Anne.
His clear vision for the business has led to a string of prestigious awards for Seamark in the UK and in Bangladesh. Excellence in the field has been recognised at home in the UK with a Queen’s Award for Export Achievement in 1998 and a number of Gold trophy Awards from the Government of Bangladesh for achieving the highest exports of seafood for nearly every year between 2002 and 2016.
One of Iqbal Ahmed’s biggest achievements is the successful establishment of NRB Bank Limited in Bangladesh, where he brought together 46 NRB (Non-resident Bangladeshi) entrepreneur investors from all over the world to invest in Bangladesh. Iqbal had a vision of creating a financial institution for Non-resident Bangladeshi. He believes, economic progress can be accelerated by engaging people with financial activities. He dreamt of unlocking a new horizon to the Bangladesh economy by facilitating NRB inward and outward investment to and from Bangladesh, assisting Bangladeshi enterprises to access international market and increasing the inflow of foreign remittances.

Despite his busy schedule, Iqbal makes time for charity works. He is connected with, as sponsor, trustee or member, many charitable organizations in the UK and Bangladesh, mainly situated within the educational sector and healthcare involving rehabilitation, training and community work, including the development of Burunga Iqbal Ahmed High School and College for 1400 students in Sylhet. He has supported and raised funds for the Manchester Children’s Hospital Appeal, the Royal Manchester Eye Hospital Appeal and Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital Appeal to name a few. He is the Chairman of UKBCCI (UK Bangladesh Catalyst of Commerce & Industry) which promotes business and entrepreneurship to young people in the UK and Bangladesh. He personally gets involve with his companies’ CSR and has formed a charity registered in the UK called the Iqbal Bros Foundation, which is currently fund raising for the Rohingya refugees.
He has founded and currently chaired Masjid ul Aqsa Islamic Centre, a Mosque and centre built for the community, where they can pray and hold religious and cultural studies. He received his highest personal recognition when he was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) at the Queen’s honours list in 2001 for his services to International Trade. He is a CIP (Commercially Important Person) in Bangladesh since 2009.
In July 2017, Iqbal was awarded by Manchester Metropolitan University an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration for his outstanding achievements in business and his significant contribution to the economy and regeneration of Manchester and Bangladesh. In October 2017, Iqbal was awarded an Honorary Fellowship Award from University Campus Oldham for his outstanding work in the community.
Over the years Iqbal Ahmed has played an active role as member, advisor or director in a number of government committees, ministries and advisory bodies in the UK and overseas such SAAG (Southern Advisory Group, Competitiveness Council, BOND (a UKTI initiative), MOSAIC under the Business in the Community, New East Manchester, Ethical Trading Champion’s Group, New Enterprise Council, Catalyst UK and Bridge2Bangladesh (B2B).

He is an advisor to the Board of Trade, by invitation from the Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP, Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade, to provide advice on promoting British exports, boosting inward investments and delivering successful trade mission abroad.
Iqbal Ahmed has the ability to speak with such authority thus regularly sought as a speaker or panel member in international events and Universities such as Bangladesh Investment Summit in Singapore (2014, 2015), World Islamic Economic Forum in Dubai (2014), Inaugural Bangladesh Investment Summit in London (2013), Entrepreneurs Festival Manchester (2013, 2016), University of Dhaka (2015), and University College London (2015). In her inaugural address, Roquia Haider, a renowned journalist from Voice of America and advisor at NRB World, conveyed the purpose of the gathering. She highlighted the evolving role of the Bangladeshi diaspora, transitioning from a pursuit of livelihood to emerging leaders in education and business. Recognizing the annual influx of new-generation students, she also emphasized the significance of the platform as a crucial stepping stone for their aspirations and future endeavors. Anika Rahman, a golden daughter of Bangladesh, is now not only a Bangladeshi American but also a promising leader in the mainstream American politics. She is a Bangladeshi Muslim American. She was born in Montreal, Canada in 1993 and moved to the U.S at the age of 16. She has started community work age of 13 with YMCA. She has been in Virginia’s political arena for more than 10 years. At the age of 13, Anika got involved in social works as a volunteer through the local Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). Anika works for the development of adolescents in the Virginia Bangladesh community, including the elimination of inequality, the expansion of education and creating awareness. She also makes efforts to create awareness about the exploitation and neglect of young girls in particular.
Anika Rahman is a progressive woman with experience in local state and national level politics. Because of her professional advocacy, she has developed close ties not only with the Muslim community but also with the Hispanic, African American and Asian communities. She can understand their problems and needs and take initiatives to solve them. Anika’s great quality is that she is fluent in speaking French, English, Hindi and Bengali.
A confident, talented and smart Anika Rahman holds a bachelor degree in Global Affairs with a concentration in International Development from George Mason University. At the end of study, her first work began with the Muslim American Citizen Coalition and the Public Affairs Council, which gave her the opportunity to meet with designated individuals, partners, congressional staff, government officials, and organizations to present Muslim-influenced policy priorities and key issues in the United States.

Anika Rahman became more interested in politics as she understood the importance of civic engagement and had her studies on it. So, she helped the Virginia Democrats and many more to fluff up 15 seats in the House of Delegates, serving as an organizer of CASA in Action, a non-profit organization in the Mid-Atlantic region. She has been involved in public meetings and social justice movements as well as lobbying for bills to be passed in Congress and the Senate. She had the opportunity to work closely with the Burma Task Force on the Rohingya genocide.
She has played a significant role in the mainstream American politics and continues to do so. She has worked for Virginia Majority Leader Dick Saslaw to help Democrats win a majority in the General Assembly in Virginia in 2019. She then served as director of state Senator Janet Howell’s campaign and then she worked as surrogate in her re-election campaign. In light of her experience in campaigning, she had the opportunity to work with local elections and committees. Leadership Center for Excellence awarded her with NOVA’s 40 under 40.
She was recently named ‘Unsung Hero’ by the Democratic Asian-American (DAAV) in Virginia. This dynamic leader of the time Anika Rahman is serving as the second vice-chairman of the board of directors of DAAV. The Bangladesh community is proud of her position.
Anika Rahman was a fellow at Schar School of Policy and Government Fellow (George Mason University) in 2019. She is a graduate from UVA’s Sorenson Institute (Candidate Training Program). She is currently attending Emerge’s 2020 Boot Camp. At present, she was the Legislative Director for Delegate Kaye Kory. She work with Federal Contractor as a Policy Analyst. Currently she is the National Chair of South Asians for America’s Candidate Endorsement and Training. She was the former National Deputy Director for South Asians for Biden. Being connected with various tasks and responsibilities, she was able to understand about policies as well as views of the top policies of the state. Her journey in the world of dance began with a foundation in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Modern Dance, and Dance, honed at the Bulbul Lalitkala Academy. Her artistic journey was further enriched when she became an apprentice to the illustrious dance guru, Syeda Saila Ahmed Lima, eventually joining the Bhongima Dance Theater. This commitment to the art form not only served as a personal milestone but also enriched the cultural landscape of Bangladesh.
As her academic and artistic journey took shape, Ashreen ventured into the world of photo modeling. She embarked on her career as a photo model, taking her initial steps under the banner of Genesis View Multimedia. These ventures into the world of modeling further expanded her horizons and broadened her experiences.
Ashreen’s professional journey has been characterized by remarkable versatility, as she has worked with a diverse range of organizations both within and outside of Bangladesh. Beyond her homeland, she also served at Hyundai Automobiles in India, where she shared her skills and expertise for a period of two years. She then expanded her professional horizons to Dubai, where she worked with Platinum Equity and AW Rostami Group.
