Mr. Manwar Hossain has succeeded his father, Mr. Al-hajj Anwar Hossain, as the Chairman of Anwar Group, a conglomerate with a legacy of 189 years. Anwar Group with a long history dating back to 1834, has been at the forefront of diversified business ventures. Holding the hands of Mr. Manwar Hossain, the group has expanded into a wide range of sectors, including textiles, building materials, polymers, jute, real estate, furniture and home décor, steel, cement, banks, cement sheet, insurance, non-bank financial institutions, capital market and automobile, among others.
Mr. Manwar Hossain, the eldest son of Al-hajj Anwar Hossain and Bibi Amena, received his education from St. Paul’s School Darjeeling, India, under the tutelage of Hamy Dang, who was once a teacher to the late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He further pursued his MBA from the University of New Hampshire, USA and joined the family business in 1993. He was elected Vice Chairman of City Bank in 1999. In addition to his role as Chairman of Anwar Group, Mr. Manwar Hossain holds several other prominent positions in the business sector. He is the President of Bangladesh Finance, the President of Bangladesh Steel Manufacturing Association, Director of Modhumoti Bank and a sponsor promoter of BD Securities, BD Capital Holdings and City General Insurance Company.
